Visiting the floating market in the West is what makes me fascinated by the endless flower fields of the Northwest so I decided to take a Mekong Delta group tour with my friends.
On this occasion, if you have the opportunity to visit the West then you cannot miss the floating markets tour. Especially at Tet holiday, it’s the best time to travel Mekong Delta in particular and floating market in general.
I travel with my friends; therefore, we rent a boat with 500,000 VND. Of course, if you have the ability to bargain better than me, the cost can be reduced slightly. Pay an additional 10,000 VND if you would like to visit Can Tho bridge.
It will take you about 30 minutes to get to Cai Rang floating market – one of the crowded markets in the Mekong Delta. Certainly, you will also feel like overwhelmed like me when immersed in the vibrant atmosphere of the people of the river.
What time is suitable for traveling floating market?
Cai Rang floating market start very soon. At about 4 or 5 am, many boats gather to start preparing for the market. You should calculate the time to visit the floating market as soon as possible. From 6 to 7 am is when the market is the most crowded. The market will end at 8 or 9 am.
I got off the Ninh Kieu wharf to the floating market at 4:30, about 5 am I was here. At this time it was still a bit dark, the sun did not show up and the wind on the river is pretty comfortable but also made me sleepy
Fortunately, the trading sounds of the market made me overcome sleep and return to the "fun". Make sure you do not fall asleep because the floating market will be sad!
What's interesting about Cai Rang floating market?
Cai Rang floating market
There are many reasons why I would like to visit Cai Rang floating market after a short visit last year. The first was the bustling scenes here that made me feel attached.
The boats with full of cargo always appear in my memories. How strange is that? This is normal, you can only see people gathering markets and selling goods on the land only, and sales on boats like this is really weird in a positive way.
Each boat will sell a variety of items, from the freshest fruits of the West to the household items necessary for everyday life. Owners of boats will hang the item you sell on a pole – the people here called the "candy" so buyers can easily recognize.
Also, the dishes are also sold on the boat. I can not forget the feeling of sitting on a small boat floating on the water and enjoy the bowl of western burgers (15,000 VND). This can be said to be the most interesting experience of my trip.
Also, if you want to eat fresh fruit, you can ask the seller to pick it up, they are extremely friendly. The first time I came here, I was impressed by the hospitality of people in Southern Vietnam.
If you still haven’t visited Southern Vietnam, you definitely won’t experience the beauty of sceneries and people around there. Exploring new things is always the reason bring me to Cai Rang floating market, Can Tho.
Immerse with life on the water and the people in Southern Vietnam
The last reason and also the reason that I always attached here is the people of the river. I have heard a lot about the life of people here and now but they are happy and cheerful so I want to try it.
Until now I still do not forget the smile of the selling noodles woman. I told her about the way Westerners cook this dish. She told me her story when she and her family had lived floatingly on the water.
For some reason, the story from a stranger makes me feel so close to her. Perhaps it was because of her friendliness and enthusiasm that erased the distances of two unknown humans with different regions, different characters, etc.
Unfortunately, I did not come here on the Thuong Dien and Ha Dien festival in Can Tho in April or else I had the opportunity to visit the largest festival in the West. But who knows, next year at this festival I’ll take another Mekong Delta group tour to come back. Maybe next year the next floating market is Phong Dien.
